In 2020, the Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation (ETL) published a roadmap on the Finnish food and drink industry’s climate emissions and ways to reduce them.
In early 2024, ETL will start to update the low-carbon roadmap in response to the Finnish Government’s programme document, which calls for up-to-date information on the climate work carried out in different sectors.
In accordance with the target set by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the updated low-carbon roadmap will be completed by summer 2024.
In the update, ETL will work with its member companies to identify how the changes in the business and investment environment that have taken place in recent years have affected the implementation of the climate measures in the 2020 map. It will also explore which policy measures would best promote climate action in the food and drink industry.
In addition to a review associated with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the updated roadmap will aim to identify real opportunities for the Finnish food industry to influence Scope 3 emissions in the value chain and, in particular, climate actions that may have negative impacts on nature or national food security.
