Several Finnish food and drink companies have signed the Green Deal agreement to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic portion packs. At least Valio, Juustoportti, Fazer, Saarioinen, HKScan and Arla have committed to the deal.

The EU’s single-use plastic (SUP) directive requires member states to achieve an ambitious and permanent reduction in the consumption of certain single-use plastic products by 2026.

In Finland, the Green Deal agreement between the Ministry of the Environment, the Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation, the Finnish Grocery Trade, the Finnish Hospitality Association MaRa and the Finnish Packaging Association offers companies an opportunity to find the most effective ways to meet the requirements of the SUP Directive without binding legislation.

Food and drink companies are constantly working to develop sustainable packaging solutions.
