Finnish food industry builds diverse corporate culture

Published:

The importance of international talent is growing in the Finnish food industry.

In Finland the number of people of working age is decreasing. This means that the increasing need for talent cannot be met solely by the domestic workforce.

The companies producing food and beverages will also need more international talent in the future.

In some Finnish food industry companies, international talents already play a significant role. In the industry, there are companies where up to 80 percent of employees speak a language other than Finnish as their native language.

On the other hand, many food industry companies are just taking their first steps in recruiting international talent. To support them ETL has published a guide on international recruitment for its member companies.

– Companies recruit foreign employees both from people already in Finland and through recruitment partners directly from target countries, says Anne Somer, Director at Finnish food and drink industries’ federation (ETL).

– Labor migration leading to employment must be streamlined through legislative means, but alongside that, companies must also strengthen their own competence in creating an inclusive work culture. Employees coming from abroad need to genuinely feel welcome and comfortable in order for them to stay in the companies.
