Employers and employees anticipate future of the food sector together

Published:

Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation (ETL), representing food industry employers, and Finnish Food Workers’ Union SEL, representing employees, have jointly initiated a dialogue aimed at anticipating changes in the food industry and envisioning the future of work in the sector.

Direction for the discussion was provided by three background studies on the state of the food industry in Finland, published in May. The industry is described business cyclically stable with promising future prospects.

Factors that make the food industry attractive include for example job stability, diverse job roles, responsibility, and the societal significance of the work.

A future challenge is seen in the shortage of skilled workers or labor, which many food companies are already experiencing. Immigration may help alleviate the situation.

The dialogue continues.
